If you are considering joining the Medium Partner Program to earn, yes, you will earn. I’m sure you have seen loads of stories telling you that they earn $1000 up. Those writers exist. They are really good and you can be like them. But you also have to manage your expectations.

On my first day on this platform, I promised to write 100 stories without expecting to earn. I said that I will consider my first 100 as my training. But I earned something from those stories. Not much, but it was something I am proud of.

I am fully employed and have no blogging experience. I write in my spare time but most often I get lazy because I’m already tired from my day job. On top of that, I have a family that I tend to. Consider those qualifications when you do your own analysis of my stats.

Here’s the summary of my revenue for a year along with other useful figures:

What I can share:

How well you work is compensated:
The number of stories and followers affect revenue;

How to Gain Followers: Taking time to read and interact with fellow Medium writers to gain followers and friends is the tried and tested way. It worked for me, too.

Curated/Distributed Stories: I had my first “chosen for further distribution” story in my 2nd month. I was elated. But the story just performed normally like all others;

Highest Reads: 1.3k with 4.4k views for a single story in 11 months.
But the reads were from Google and I didn’t earn a dollar from that story until now;

Lowest Reads: 6.
It was a story on a niche that I planned to focus on. So I dropped that niche in my second month;

Most Popular Stories: Stories about money. Not a single one has been chosen for further distribution but they gave me the biggest chunk of my revenues.
